Miss Gee's
Miss Gee’s was a really fun brand to work with. As soon as I met Ashlee Gee, I knew she was onto something special with her new bar on the Strand in Tauranga’s CBD. The essence of what she wanted to create was not a service but rather an experience; a place where people can leave their stress at the door and socialise in a fun environment. Long story short, this is a place that is proud to be pup-friendly and offers ‘birthday cake with sprinkles’ on the dessert menu.
Whether visiting Miss Gee’s for a client meeting or for a family birthday, Ash envisioned a place where people would feel welcome and encouraged to engage freely. So many bars and restaurants these days have embraced the ‘industrial feel’ which she wanted to get away from. Instead, Miss Gee’s was going to be all about creating a vibrant haven.
Starting with the signage, we worked on a fun, pop art style concept. By using a slightly retro colour scheme and typography, tied in with reversed copy, we were onto a winner. It’s clear what Miss Gee’s is about while also conjuring up further intrigue.
Next was the menus with an ‘anti-classical’ approach (we learnt that term today and glad to say we nailed it). Not to be outdone by the delicious array of meals and drinks, the design had to also make you smile. Animations were used to show people embracing Miss Gee’s social etiquette of having a damn good time. Headings were set on varying angles along with a subtle spotted background which can also be seen throughout the Miss Gees website.
Miss Gee’s brand reflects the visual identity that Ash set out to achieve. A style that doesn’t take itself too seriously... apart from when it comes to delivering good food and good times!
